We are getting there! New and old friends and family have continued to contribute to our financial support, and the percentage is rising! We now have 28% of the total support that we need to raise for our first year in Nigeria. GLO gives us a goal of 60% that we have to raise before we can fly to Nigeria in the middle of July, so we still have a ways to go.
Thank you to the Zion Lutheran Church - Belleville, IL handbell and choir groups and to Mike and Cindy Borden and their congregation at St. John's Lutheran Church - Warrenton, MO for hosting us in this past month! We very much enjoyed sharing our story with you and meeting so many wonderful people! Our May Sundays are completely full of presentations at different churches, but if you are near the St. Louis area and have a midweek evening Bible study or LWML group that would be interested in hearing us speak, we would love to see if we can figure something out for sometime in May. We also have available Sundays in June and will be basing our travel from Denton, TX at that point. If you have such a group that might be open to hearing us speak, please let us know. You can send an email to this address: [email protected] If you feel led to help us reach that 60% so that we can head out to Nigeria, you can find details on how to do that (online or by check) at the bottom of this newsletter. |
We are working on getting Heather's passport renewed and getting Nathan's first passport. That process takes quite a while, and it needs to get done before we can apply for Visas for Nigeria (another long process). We would appreciate your prayers for this process to go smoothly and as quickly as possible so that we are able to leave in the middle of July as planned.

We have news on what house we will be living in in Jos! We will be living in what used to be the school nurse's office. It was renovated into a home toward the end of the time that Heather's family was living there, but she never got the chance to go in after it was renovated. Here are a couple pictures of what the outside looked like when she lived there as a kid (we called the nurse's office the dispensary). It makes it even more exciting being able to picture what our future home looks like.
This past week, my (Heather's) school celebrated National Lutheran School's Week. It was a week full of joyful praise, lots of fun activities and smiling kids. I got pretty emotional on that last day after we had a big praise rally together. The students who I have taught for the past 3 years waved at me as they left, and I started tearing up. I will miss them so much, but I know that I will form the same kind of special bonds with my new students at Hillcrest.

God gave us an awesome reminder this past week that He is the great provider and healer. My (Heather's) Uncle Michael (dad's brother) has muscular dystrophy and has had to be connected to machines to keep him breathing for longer than I have been alive. Hospitals in general can be pretty dangerous for him. He had to have surgery this past week (even more dangerous). He had so many people praying for him! We were all very scared for him, but God provided great health care professionals who were able to get the job done well, and my uncle got through it better than the doctors ever thought he would!
Praise the Lord! |
