Flame of the Forest Tree
I love the Nigerian flame tree! This picture (shown above in our header) was taken on the school campus where we will be living. Isn’t it gorgeous? It reminds me of the calling that each Christian has to spread the Gospel like a huge wildfire! Some choose to follow that calling closer to home. We decided to accept a call to a mission field that isn’t quite so close, but we’re all part of the same big Mission of God.
About the PittmansHeather and her family lived in Jos, Nigeria from 1999-2012 as LCMS World Mission missionaries. Upon returning stateside in 2012, Heather met born and bred Texan, Nathan. The two got married 6 years later and have now lived and worked in the St. Louis area for almost 3 years.
Nathan loves just about anything related to computers. He loves to build them, fix them, code on them and play games on them. He also enjoys cooking in his spare time. Heather is happiest when she is teaching and/or making music. She loves to use her musical talents to help lead worship at their church and inspire her students to praise God using their voices and instruments. Now a 4th generation missionary, Heather is humbled and blessed to be following in the footsteps of her parents and grandparents, Ivan and Jennifer Rasch and Wally and Betty Rasch, former LCMS missionaries to Nigeria, as well as her great-grandparents, Arthur and Marie Rasch, former LCMS missionaries to India. |
Serving the Lord in NigeriaWe are excited to follow God’s call to return to Heather’s childhood home of 12 years, Jos, Nigeria, continuing God’s work at Hillcrest School starting in August of this year!
Heather will be teaching K-5 general music, MS and HS band, World Music and HS choir. As a teacher who went through the Concordia system and received her Lutheran Teachers Diploma, she gets the wonderful opportunity to teach the future generation of leaders in Nigeria from a Christian perspective. Nathan will be providing tech support for the other Global Lutheran Outreach missionaries around the globe. He also anticipates providing tech support for the other missionaries in Jos when issues arise. |
